According to House Beautiful (and we agree), these are 10 easy ways to make a design statement in 2013:
1. Add Unexpected Color (i.e. orange, red or turquoise)2. Embrace Pattern, even in subtle ways (i.e. with curtains, accent pillows etc.)
3. Update what you already own (i.e. re-frame pictures with a bolder color matting or change out white shades for ones with color)
4. Mix Up Styles (i.e. break up traditional with something more modern)
5. Try High Gloss Paint: "Gloss! High Gloss! Shine! Polish!" -Jeffrey Pillhuber
6. Add Art ( i.e. art that you like and may not have anything to do with the rest of the room)
7. Use Brighter, More Saturated Hues
8. Layer Patterns: The trick to mixing patterns? Alternate them with solids!
9. Add an Eye Catching Light Fixture or Chandelier
10. Create a Unique Bar or Counter Space
